The weight that falls under your hand
Take a dumbbell: the load is in line with your wrist. Your arm bears the weight, your shoulder stabilizes, and that's it.
A kettlebell is different. Its center of gravity is displaced below the hand, a few centimeters from the handle. This tiny offset changes everything: the weight pulls backward and downward, and your body must constantly compensate.
This is what makes ballistic movements possible — the swing, the clean, the snatch. Movements where the load moves quickly, where the hip pushes and not the arm lifts.
What it specifically changes
| With dumbbells only |
With NovaBell |
| Glutes work little: they are only engaged in squats and lunges. |
The swing recruits glutes and hamstrings like no other home movement. |
| Exercises are slow and controlled — you never work on power. |
Ballistic movements: execution speed becomes a training parameter. |
| Several pairs are needed to cover multiple load levels. |
Three weights from 4 to 6 kg: you progress without buying new equipment. |
| Iron placed on the floor clangs and wakes up the apartment. |
Silent PVC coating and flat base: it rests silently. |
| A dumbbell rack occupies an entire wall. |
A single piece, in a corner. No one guesses it's sports equipment. |
| Core work is done separately, at the end of the session when you're tired. |
Carrying, farmer's walk, get-up: the core works in almost every movement. |
What it works
-
Glutes — the primary muscle for the swing, by far
-
Hamstrings — throughout the hip extension phase
-
Core muscles — continuous stabilization, with each change of direction
-
Shoulders and traps — on overhead movements
-
Forearms and grip — the handle is never released
Which weight to choose
-
4 kg — for learning movements, and initial working load if you're a beginner
-
5 kg — regular practice, established technique
-
6 kg — power training, high-cadence swings
When in doubt, choose lighter. Technique always comes before load — and a kettlebell that's too heavy teaches bad habits that will then need to be unlearned.
Five fundamental movements
-
Russian swing — 4 sets of 15, 60 seconds rest. The push comes from the hips, never the arms. The arms merely accompany. This is the movement to master before all others.
-
Goblet squat — 3 sets of 12, 90 seconds. Kettlebell held against the chest, elbows inside the knees in the bottom position.
-
Clean & press — 3 sets of 8, 90 seconds. Learn with no weight before loading: the wrist must turn over without the kettlebell hitting the forearm.
-
Turkish get-up — 3 sets of 3, 120 seconds. The most complete and technical movement there is. Gaze fixed on the kettlebell from start to finish.
-
Single-arm deadlift — 3 sets of 10 per side, 75 seconds. Hips level throughout: this is what reveals and corrects imbalances.
The swing is learned before everything else
This is the most important point on this page.
Poorly executed — by pulling with the arms and rounding the back — the swing causes pain, sometimes long-lasting. Well executed — by pushing with the hips, flat back, relaxed arms — it is one of the most complete and safest exercises available.
Dedicate two sessions to learning it without weight, or with the lightest weight. Film yourself from the side. If your back rounds or your arms pull, you are not ready to load.
Your questions about NovaBell
Kettlebell or dumbbells, if I have to choose?
It depends on the goal. Dumbbells are more versatile for upper body and isolated work. The kettlebell is unbeatable for posterior chains, power, and core strength. If you can only choose one thing and you want functional training, choose the kettlebell.
Isn't 6 kg too light?
For a curl, yes. For a high-cadence swing, no — try forty repetitions and you'll understand. The swing engages the posterior chains in a way that load alone doesn't measure. This range is designed for technique, volume, and home workouts, not for maximum strength.
Does the coating get damaged?
The PVC holds up well to normal use. What damages it are repeated impacts against a wall or hard floor — place it down, don't drop it. A floor mat significantly extends its lifespan, and that of your parquet.
Is it suitable for beginner women?
The product makes no gender difference — only your experience matters. To learn the movements, 4 kg is a good starting point for most adults. The swing in particular is surprising: it's much more demanding than it looks.
Can I use it in an apartment?
Yes, provided you have sufficient ceiling height for the swing and a mat on the floor. The flat base and coating make it quiet to set down — but a swing requires space in front and above.
How many sessions per week?
Two to three, with at least one rest day between each. The swing heavily engages the posterior chain, and glute and hamstring soreness often surprises people in the first few weeks.
Do the colors change anything?
Strictly the same product. Choose the one you'll happily leave visible: a kettlebell stored at the back of a closet is never used.
What if I choose the wrong weight?
Thirty days to return it to us, beyond the legal fourteen days, in its original and unused condition. But please email us before ordering if you're unsure: Kristy will help you choose, and it's simpler for everyone.
